Live Streaming: Mainz 05 vs Bayern Munich (Bundesliga)
Mainz and Bayern München open Gameweek 13 of Bundesliga on Friday’s late kick-off as host are looking for another surprise result against current champions.

Mainz are firmly ensconced in mid-table with 13 points separating them from Leipzig at the summit and Hamburg at the foot of the table. If they are to repeat last season’s top-six feat again, they will need to produce more consistent performances. While it will be tough against Bayern, they did beat them last season.

On 2 March, the 05ers threw a spanner in Bayern’s works with a stunning 2-1 win at the Allianz Arena. Martin Schmidt masterminded that tactical triumph against the record champions and he will hope to have found the key once again to unlocking the Bayern door after Matchday 12’s defeat at Hertha Berlin left his side five points off the top six.

Bayern München will be looking to avenge that 2-1 loss and continue building their confidence up after bouncing back to winning ways last weekend. No one in the Bayern camp is happy to be three points behind newly promoted Leipzig so they will need to maintain form to capitalise on any slip-ups from the league leaders.

Bayern stalled a run of three games without a win in all competitions by beating Bayer 04 Leverkusen last weekend, but if they are to move back to the Bundesliga summit on Friday night, they know they need an improvement this weekend. Mats Hummels admitted it had not been perfect against Leverkusen, but only the result matters once again this Friday for Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

Bayern Munich have kept just one clean sheet in their last twelve outings across all competitions and seem more vulnerable to inconsistency than at any time in recent years. Nevertheless, they are still favorites in this match, but will have to pick up the pace in order to secure the top of the table over winter break for the seventh season in a row.

Head to Head

Mainz won 2-1 at the Allianz Arena in March 2016, ending a run of seven straight league losses against Bayern. They have never managed consecutive competitive victories vs. Bayern.

FSV have lost more often in the Bundesliga (14), conceded more goals (51) and won fewer points per game (0.7; min. 3 top-flight meetings) vs. the Bavarians than any other club.

Bayern have scored in all 10 of their Bundesliga trips to Mainz and netted on multiple occasions in nine of those matches. M05 have lost their last four home games against FCB – they have never lost five straight matches in Mainz against a particular top-flight outfit.
